I was in the area, so I stopped and took a walk in the marsh. CREW stands for the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed, which manages 60,000 acres in southern Lee and northern Collier Counties.
A juvenile little blue heron, white for its first year, surveyed the scene atop a dead tree.
A pavilion and picnic tables are sponsored by a family of birders, photographers and academics.
A tower overlooks the marsh.
A boardwalk leads through seasonally wet parts of the marsh.
I have wonderful memories of wandering in that area. Saw so many birds.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous - as does all that sunshine! Freezing fog here today.
ReplyDeleteJack, you shoot stunning bird photos, and this one is no exception. I love walking on boardwalks through wetlands because you get to see all sorts of wildlife, but it takes patience to spot them.
ReplyDeleteA marvelous place for a walkabout.
ReplyDeleteNeat place to explore, I'd check it out if I were nearby too
ReplyDeleteI didn't know great blue's were white during their first year. Thanks! Could be there are birds I misidentified as egrets! All are lovely though
ReplyDeleteJudithK, little blue herons are the ones that are white for their first year, not great blue herons.
