Butterflies and Bees



Monarch butterflies on echinacea (coneflower)


  This Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly, with rich iridescent blue on her tail, is a female.



Male swallowtails don't have the blue tails. 


This black swallowtail butterfly with iridescent blue on her tail is a "dimorphic" female variety.

A bumble bee coated with pollen visits an echinacea (coneflower).

    Absolutely beautiful. I had a dear friend of 92 yrs. young who was exceptionally knowledgeable about butterflies. Today's offering reminded me of her. Thanks for the exquisite photos and the memories.

    I'm always jealous of those who have Monarch butterflies to enjoy as we don't have an equivalent here. We do have a species of Swallowtail, but they are only found in a few isolated locations - must plan a visit sometime.
