Sol Lewitt at the Wadsworth Atheneum

Hartford-born artist Sol Lewitt grew up in nearby New Britain.  He is celebrated as the founder of conceptualism, an art form that holds that it is the idea that is important, not the rendering itself.  Painted directly on the walls by studio assistants, according to specific instructions from the artist, this wall “drawing” was designed for the space in Hartford's art museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum.

The curved bands of alternating color blocks play off of arches and various swirls and circles in the ceiling, walls, and balustrade. The entrance of the museum and a stairwell also exhibit
colorful Lewitt works.

The December theme for bloggers in the City Daily Photo community is "Rainbow."
