Hertz Arena

Hertz, the car rental company, recently signed a deal for naming rights to the arena where the Florida Everblades play hockey and many concerts are held.  The arena is across a man-made lake from
 the outlet mall where I was shopping.  The clouds were attention-getting.

President Trump will be at Hertz Arena tomorrow, stirring his base into a frenzy about
the Florida gubernatorial and senatorial races.  I won't be there.

World Champions!

The Boston Red Sox won again, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to one, 

to take the World Series.  

Steve Pearce hit one home run in the first inning as the third hitter in the game and a second in
 the top of the eighth.  Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez also hit home runs.
Pearce was named Most Valuable Player of the World Series.

David Price pitched a brilliant game through seven innings before being relieved.

I was attempting to photograph Price as the television shot changed from a close-up to a

distant shot.  Pretty cool, don't you think?

Just One More to Go

The Boston Red Sox came from 4 runs behind last night to win 9 - 6.  They now lead the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, 3 - 1.  With a win tonight, they will become world champions again.

Down 4 - 0, Mitch Moreland hit a three run home run to bring the score to 4 - 3.

Steve Pearce tied the game with a solo home run.

Brock Holt doubled and then scored to take the lead 5 - 4.

 Pearce came up with the bases loaded and emptied the bases with a double to make the score 8 - 4.

The Sox got another run and in the bottom of the ninth inning 

the Dodgers got two more runs but fell short.

Long games, but exciting for a long-time Red Sox fan.

My suitcase wore out, so I went to Miromar to replace it.  A fountain and the sky caught my eye.

Sunrise in Naples

I live on the 16th hole of a golf course in Naples.  This is the sight that greeted me
when I woke up for my first day in southwest Florida this fall.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Mount Dora, Florida

On my drive south, I detoured to see the Starry Night house in Mount Dora, Florida. An autistic young man loves Van Gogh’s famous painting. His parents painted the house and wall so that, if he gets lost, he can tell people he lives in the Starry Night house and they will find it.

Got to Naples in time for dinner last night.  Got to find something to photograph for tomorrow.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Savannah, Georgia

I got to Savannah with about 45 minutes of light remaining.  So, I went for a fast walk.

United States Post Office.

Telfair museums.  It was closed.  I have never been inside.

Chippewa Square, facing south so that he can “keep a watchful eye on the Spanish.”

Every time I am in Savannah, it seems I end up near the Six Pence Pub when I am ready for dinner.

Naples tomorrow.

Out of the Jurisdiction: Harrisonburg, Virginia

The frost arrived overnight in Connecticut.  I hit the road this morning for Florida and took the western path into New York State on Route 84 before turning south on Route 81 through Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and finally western Virginia. 

 I arrived in Harrisonburg as the sun went down.  I had to explore the downtown in the dark.

Asbury United Baptist Church on South Main Street is an old-fashioned church with 

a nicely lighted stained glass window.

Onward tomorrow.  I am aiming for Savannah.

Bone and Joint Insitute

Hartford Hospital opened a new facility for orthopedics and other bone and joint problems.

I like the sweeping lines of the connector between the two buildings.

That Book Store

That Book Store opened this summer in Wethersfield.  It is owned and operated by the mother and daughter team of Karen and Bell.  When I visited, Bell was feeling awful but she gamely posed.

I love independent bookstores in which you can ask the owner, "Got any good mysteries?" and have immediate summaries about one book by a Top Ten author, a second by a less well known author
and a third by a local guy.  I bought the second and third.

Vhashaye

Vhashaye works the counter at Spot Coffee, a year-old coffee shop in Blue Back Square.

It is pronounced vuh-SHAY.  We laughed at how much time she spends spelling her name for people.

Dahlias

The annual garden is empty.  Most roses have quit.  A few perennials and some herbs 

are taking their last gasps.  But, the dahlia beds are at their best in Elizabeth Park.

Blue Back Square

I have mentioned Blue Back Square several times in the course of something else.  But, I don't usually show it directly.  BBS is a mixed use development south of the original West Hartford Center. 

BBS has numerous national stores and restaurants -- like Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble and Cheesecake Factory -- and local stores and restaurants.  And, a six screen movie theater, a branch of Hartford Hospital, a big fitness center, and apartments and condos.

Relocated and renovated municipal functions -- the library, town hall and 

central police station -- are incorporated at the edge of Blue Back Square.

The Collinsville Corp. was an old implements company that harnessed the river's flow for power.
Today the building holds a tee shirt company and several antiques businesses.

An Angry Homeowner

For several years, a homeowner on North Main Street has been putting on big Halloween displays.

Since the 2016 election, the displays have become increasingly political.

This year's main display has pages from Presidents the homeowner respects -- like Kennedy, Obama and Roosevelt -- on the left side, a variety of anti-Trump harangues on the right, and in the middle

"Gates to Trumpian Perdition" in the middle below a large "Democracy Can Die"sign.

To the right are panels marked "Hope" and "Fear" and an invitation for passers-by to write down what they hope for or what they fear.  This young woman spent time writing on one of the panels.
She then stood silently reading what her predecessors had written.

And, oh, I just noticed that a few days ago I published my 3,000th post.  It was one with a Triumph TR6 with a "For Sale" sign on the windshield.  If I had been paying attention, I would have
picked a more special one.  Maybe the post with my granddaughters.
