Contrast
In Hartford's West End, it is not uncommon to find a large contemporary building next to a fine old residence, either still used as a home or -- like this one on Niles Street -- converted to offices.
Both Minneapolis and St. Paul have rows of grand, huge, old homes, but these days most of them have become offices or taken over by institutions. At least the buildings have found a new life meaning they will be maintained for the future.
I worked for a while in a beautiful old residence that had been converted like this. It made for some interestingly shaped offices but it was a very comfortable place to work. (And it had a beautiful front porch, come to think of it!)
I prefer the architecture of the old building.
ReplyDeleteI would also go for the older building.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the older one.
ReplyDeleteA very common sight here too, Jack! That is a fine older building!

ReplyDeleteI always wonder what the original residents would make of it, when homes are converted to businesses.

ReplyDeleteGood they didn't replace the old building.
