Sandsculpting at Fort Myers Beach I

Back in mid-November, I visited the 30th annual sand sculpture competition in Fort Myers Beach.

This last one is called "Dream More While You are Awake."
An airplane forms as it moves up the ramp.

I will show a second group of sand sculptures tomorrow.

  1. What a fun festival. The examples you show are most creative. Not sure how they get sand to hold those shapes? Perhaps it is mixed with a bit of cement?

  2. Clever stuff. I must say that the sand-castle builders show a good deal more imagination than the architects of the building in the background.

  3. Very talented to be able to create something in sand. We used to go to Cannon Beach, Oregon every year to see the sand castle festival when we lived Portland. It was always fun.

  4. These are amazing, Jack! I'm not sure how they get the sand to hold its shape.

  5. Amazing work. A friend of a friend made an ice sculpture in Stockholm two day ago. On a big square. It took her 12 hours. Since then it's been nearly 10C so it melted away quicker than expected.
