Swamp buggy races are traditions in the blue collar, "Old Florida" part of Naples.
A highlight of the races is the coronation of the Swamp Buggy Queen.

Absolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe Swamp Beauty Queen is lovely Jack, the title not so much :)
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with Grace!!
ReplyDeleteWell, that is one I have never heard of before.
ReplyDeleteThis is for Everglades rednecks mostly!
ReplyDeleteYep, I totally agree with Grace, too!! The Queen is lovely -- the title?? Nope!!! Does sound a trifle "redneck"!! Hope you have a great weekend, Jack!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteA peculiar name, Jack!
ReplyDeleteSounds so American to me, Jack! In a good way.
ReplyDelete... swamp races ... I wonder if it all got started when someone tried to out swim a gator? Very nice shot and sounds like a bit of fun everglade trivia.
ReplyDeleteShe does not look like she has come out of a swamp. Lovely Queen. Odd event. Is swamp racing ecologically sound?
ReplyDeleteNice display there Jack! It seems like a lot of towns in Florida have some type of queen. This is one I hadn't heard of before.
ReplyDeleteQuite a title! Not just anyone could carry that off!
ReplyDeleteDang! I think I missed my calling.
ReplyDeleteWhat a curious title. The 1997 Queen looks lovely. Pretty impressive crown too. Happy New Year to you, Jack!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Definitely different! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is Awesome Jack! In 1949 the tradition was started when Joan Ozier was crowned as the first Swamp Buggy Queen. A can with her name on it was passed around, collecting $1 donations from the community. Ozier's can had the most dollars, so she was named queen and was given a cardboard crown covered in shiny foil of all sorts, including chewing gum wrappers. The contest was sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi, which presented her with a $50 bond. Today it is a Scholarship Pageant.
ReplyDeleteVery Respectfully ~ 1997 Swamp Buggy Queen Stacy Rhodes (McDonald)
