Driving through Hartford's Barry Square last week, I saw again the statue of Civil War
General Griffin Stedman. He stands out better with the background trees bare of leaves.
Stedman was born in Hartford. After graduating from Trinity, he became a lawyer, but enlisted when the Civil War got underway in 1861. Stedman had an illustrious military career, leading troops from the 5th and 11th Connecticut Regiments, which saw action in many of the key battles of the war.
Stedman died at Petersburg in 1864 and was given a field promotion to General.
He's a handsome fellow.
ReplyDeleteNice shot! Does look great with the bare branches.
ReplyDeleteA good contrast to the earlier post, Jack.
ReplyDeleteThe branches make a nice backdrop, Jack!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture for the day, Jack -- actually, for any day!! Well, you know what I mean. I do hope you have a wonderful New Year and that you share it with us!!
ReplyDeleteHe looks quite good, as a statue.
ReplyDeleteNice. Too bad he didn't get to brag about that promotion.
