Oscar

Oscar is five.  A year ago his father set up a chess board and Oscar asked how to play.
He learned the game in an hour.

Oscar went into Starbucks with his family and stood behind the regulars.
They asked him if he wanted to play.  Soon he was at the table,
concentrating on a chess match.

  3. I hate kids who are smarter than I am! :) Seriously, that's pretty amazing. I play lots of games but never learned chess and I'm too old to do it now! You got a great look on Oscar's face!

  6. Love the look on Oscar's face as if he's staring his opponent down, daring him to make a wrong move.

  11. Good for Oscar! He looks like he not only has the game he's also got the fearsome look of a competitor.
We recently saw "The Life of a King" with Cuba Gooding playing an ex-con who teaches chess to inner city kids. Gooding puts in a nice performance.

  13. Bravo Oscar. I'm amazed at how my grandson and others so young learn chess. I captured an 8 year old playing a young man at Luxembourg Gardens last year. Her dad was a chess coach. He was quite proud.
Wonderful slice of life portrait Jack.
