Yesterday I showed you a new market and restaurant, fresh, clean, modern and full of optimism.
Today's story is sadder.
Today's story is sadder.
Clock Family Restaurant closed suddenly last week after 38 years in business.
It was one of those old-fashioned, 24/7 family restaurants that most cities have.
Unfortunately, the Clock's customers, staff and owners and the facility all aged.
Time passed it by.
Time passed it by.
What a strange story... perfect for the name!
ReplyDeleteThat is a shame. I'd hate to see that happen to the Maid-Rite in Quincy Illinois. It's been run by the same family for as long as it's been open and my mom and dad used to go on dates there. Every time I visit Quincy, I can't leave town without stopping there for a sandwich or two.
ReplyDeleteAlways sad to see that happen, Jack!
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad. Maybe someone will come in and give it a breath of fresh air. It seems there are loads of people who want to open restos these days.
ReplyDeleteWe've had more than one restaurant like that close here, too. This isn't an era where it's easy to sell an older restaurant, and running one is an exhausting business. Sadly, owners will stick to it until they just hit a wall (or the wall hits them).
ReplyDeleteIt's happening everywhere.
ReplyDeleteVery much the end of an era.
ReplyDeleteAlways a shame to see such places close down and the employees and owners finding themselves out of work. This branch of commerce seems to be undergoing great changes at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWhen one sees this happening in their neighbourhood it can be so shocking.
ReplyDeleteHow sad to see that happen. Hopefully the owners were able to retire.
ReplyDeleteI always feel a loss when this occurs to a family business. We definitely are living in a different world. I always regret the passing yet enjoy whatever is new, different, and exciting. Wish the two could co-exist more readily.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame one of the you ger members of the family didn't take over and breath new life into the place :(
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid there's not much we can do about our changing times.
