Sebastian has been my Hartford barber for two years. He bought the shop where Tony cut my hair for more than thirty years. Sebby is a second generation American, with strong ties to his
ancestral Italy. He has applied for a grant from the arts council to set up his shop
as a gallery for local artists, with rotating exhibitions.
Until he can turn his shop into a gallery, posing Sebastian in front of racks with
men's magazines works, don't you think?
men's magazines works, don't you think?
Yes it does. I hope he gets his grant. Did you enjoy the two top magazines? :-)
ReplyDeleteWhich of the art is "fine art". . .the magazines or the arts council's choices, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteWhat great idea for a barbershop! I hope he get his grant. When he does, I hope he displays prints of some of your fine photos.
ReplyDeleteI hope he gets the grant. That sounds like a great idea for a barbershop. Maybe you will show some of your photos there one day.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like great idea for the barbershop.
ReplyDeleteGreat portrait. He looks like an artist himself. A combination barbershop and gallery sounds perfect. I'm with Ed wishing you have a show of your work in this gallery.
ReplyDeleteA great idea indeed and he does look like an artist himself!! I would definitely hope you have a show of your work there! Your photos are a very special art!! Enjoy your weekend, Jack!!
ReplyDeleteGood portrait!
ReplyDeleteExcellent portrait Jack, Sebastian would have been thrilled with it. The magazines in barber shops make me laugh.. I once went with a male friend of mine to have his hair cut, it was the most fascinating experience.. not only did they NOT say hardly a word to each other (women talk a LOT in the hairdressers) but they were both sooo embarrassed when I started flicking through the 'selection' of magazines.' it was hilarious :)
ReplyDeleteLove his idea and your portrait! Very nice Jack!
ReplyDeleteSebastian (or better, its Italian version with the final 'o') is not a very common name in Italy. The only Sebastian I know is a German working here as a computer tech.
ReplyDeleteA very good portrait, by the way.
hmm, nice barber
ReplyDeletebut he should show his own hair, i would think!!
Love the idea, Jack! I hope his customers like the gallery when it happens.
ReplyDeleteHe looks normal. I have this thing about barbers. It's a long story, but wonderful portrait, Jack.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, he's a better barber than what one can find in Ocala! You've done well posing him and he's a fine-looking chap, but I'm still laughing from my first read about you getting your hair cut. Ha, ha, ha, ha! That's almost as funny as my not getting to Longwood. Well, I suppose you could use a trim every year or two. Ha, ha, ha, ha!
ReplyDeleteNice racks.
ReplyDeleteBarbershops have come a long way since I first used to sit waiting in line in 'Slasher' Osbourne's as a young boy. Elderly farm-workers reading the papers and giving off clouds of tobacco smoke rather than fine art, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea to set up his shop
ReplyDeleteas a gallery for local artists, bravo Sebastian!
Next time don't cut too much the hair of Jack! :)
What a great idea, a gallery in a barber shop!
ReplyDeleteGreat portrait! Well chosen background, very cool.
