The Honor Guard.
This veteran was tossing candy to the kids watching the parade.
Kind of echoes the martial arts person in the poster, eh?

Maybe this young man is tired of having Mom take his picture!
It wouldn't be a West Hartford parade without Rob the Drummer joining one of the high school bands. Rob is a music educator who teaches local kids to play the drums. He travels the country with his message for kids to pick up instruments instead of drugs and alcohol.

Looks like a great parade. I love it when people get together. :)
ReplyDeletePS: I think Ai Weiwei 'remakes' a lot of his artworks depending on where they're being shown. I am sure your stools and my stools were the same, but your arrangement was more dynamic. :)
Tossing candy to the kids reminds me of the Allies when liberating villages during WWII.
ReplyDeleteYou might not have had bagpipers in West Hartford, but you had Rob the Drummer! Now I'm jealous.
ReplyDeleteWonderful set of images!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a very nice day for the parade. It also looks rather like a small town event which can't be true...or maybe West Hartford is a small town. Rob the Drummer looks a little scary. But I don't need him 'cause I usually pickup drumsticks when we eat turkey.
ReplyDeleteParades are such fun, especially ones with a small-town feel on a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteThey guy in the big hat in that last shot looks like he's having fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Jack. So West Hartford really is a relatively small town and I can see why so many folks get involved in an event like this. Sounds mighty good!
ReplyDeleteOcala is officially only about 50K. But that's only within the city limits. It's about 250K when you add the suburban areas. :)
Looks like a lot of fun! My daughter would love Rob the Drummer since she is a high school band director.
ReplyDeleteLove the parade scenes. That Rob is doing great work! Of course, having a drummer in the house might not be every parent's dream. Maybe a violin or clarinet thrown into the mix would also work.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun, great shots for the day, Jack!! I love the kid and his photo-taking Mom!! The veteran tossing candy is priceless!! You do find the perfect ones!! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the remainder of your week -- camera in hand, of course!!
ReplyDeleteGood street captures, Jack!
ReplyDeleteI remember once seeing a pic of a kid with the drums, with the caption that if you really hate someone, the best way to show it is to give their chidren a drumset.
:-) Maybe it wasn't his mother...
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see such a low-key parade where everyone is enjoying themselves! I though the guy was showing us the poster at first.
ReplyDeleteI like the tone of the parade and I really enjoyed your pictures of it!
ReplyDeletethese are super and it does look like he's mimicking the poster lol...i can also relate to the mom and the irritated boy haha
ReplyDeleteThere is something about firemen in dress uniform that looks different in the Northeast than the rest of the country. The guys in Ridgewood, NJ, where my sister lives and I often shoot the 4th of July parade, look just like this. They have a special dignity.
ReplyDeleteRob is doing a good job. Nice photos from the parade.
ReplyDeleteGood for Rob. I'll bet he's a great teacher too.

I like the way Rob the drummer thinks Jack.. and follows it through!
