It Is Raining Chairs

I saw this installation on a porch down a side street in Old Naples.

Do you think the Naples artist was inspired by the similar
installation, "Bang," at the 2013 Venice Biennale by the Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei?

(I never expected to find an opportunity to show this Biennale photo
from my June 2013 trip to Venice and the Adriatic.)

  3. how neat! now i'm reminded by the song "it's raining men" ...we used to go to joes crab shack a lot back when we lived in san diego and when they'd put on "it's raining men" all the workers would put on funny wigs and dance...such a fun restaurant!

  5. I wonder what type of umbrella you need when it is raining chairs.

This was a rare and unexpected connection to the photo from Venice.

  7. I may talk to animals (my therapist says it's quite all right just as long as they don't talk me into doing something stupid) but at least I'm not some crazy artist who hangs a bunch of chairs or stools in random patterns and actually thinks that's a good thing! Sheesh!

Sometimes, in southwest Florida, the sun bakes brains.

  8. That would be quite a cascade! (And I'd be among those glad you chose to show the Biennale image - looks Weiwei inspired:)

  10. I agree with Grace, that is probably his inspiration. Either that or the last hurricane. I love the photo from Venice. Your photo really brings the exhibit to life.

  14. You have been accompanied by the Naples artist during your trip to Venice, Jack?

  16. The Weiwei exhibit shot is astonishing! And the porch does feel influenced by that exhibit, even if it wasn't...

  18. I think I like the first one better. After working in the visual arts department at FSU for a number of years, nothing surprises me in the art world anymore.

  21. I'm glad you had an excuse to post the Weiwei shot. It's kind of cool. And the ladderback chairs? Well, they have minds of their own. Go back another day and who knows what they'll be doing then!

Where did you go? Croatia I hope. Planning a trip to Bled, Slovenia and Dubrovnik (with other stops along the way) probably this September.
