A service club raised money for charity yesterday by sponsoring a chalk art festival
on the main shopping street of Olde Naples.
Many of the chalk artists were students, usually girls.
These girls are from Barron Collier High School, one of Naples' high schools.
Some of the artists were professional muralists.
Local schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses and stores sponsored many
of the murals. This was being done for a jeweler in support of
Sunshine Kids, an organization for childhood cancer patients.
I could do that if I wanted.
Tickets sold to festival visitors could be put in the artists' bowls, to vote for favorites.
My votes in the professional category went to Jane Portaluppi Durand,
an artist who was reproducing part of a 19th century painting.
Now that looks like great fun. Did any of these do the 3-D kinds of pictures? Lots of people with lots of talent!

I might be able to bend over like the lady in the third picture but I doubt I'd be able to get up again!

ReplyDeleteSome interesting art work here. I like the portrait in the last photo the best. I don't think I could sit on the ground and work like that for any length of time. That leg lift thing is simply out of the question.

ReplyDeleteYou see this in a number of places around the world and it boggles me. How people make such accurate reproductions - on the pavement - of both shape and color is amazing. But then my manual dexterity rises to the level of pushing a shutter button.

I'd try the art thing, I wouldn't even try the bendy thing! This loks like such a fun way of raising funds. I hope they did well.
