Chalk Art

A service club raised money for charity yesterday by sponsoring a chalk art festival
on the main shopping street of Olde Naples.

Many of the chalk artists were students, usually girls.
These girls are from Barron Collier High School, one of Naples' high schools.

Some of the artists were professional muralists.

Local schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses and stores sponsored many
of the murals.  This was being done for a jeweler in support of
Sunshine Kids, an organization for childhood cancer patients.

I could do that if I wanted.

Tickets sold to festival visitors could be put in the artists' bowls, to vote for favorites.
My votes in the professional category went to Jane Portaluppi Durand
an artist who was reproducing part of a 19th century painting.

  1. Now that looks like great fun. Did any of these do the 3-D kinds of pictures? Lots of people with lots of talent!

  3. I'd like to see you try that Jack, the bendy thing that is. I had a look at Jane's work, very impressive.

  4. I couldn't do that - the leg thing.
I couldn't do that - the art thing.
I might be able to bend over like the lady in the third picture but I doubt I'd be able to get up again!

  8. Extraordinary talent, made more difficult by inability to put the sidewalk up on an easel where it would be easier to work.

Barron Collier Company has been a player in Phoenix urban real estate with a big downtown high-rise and the acquisition of part of the former Phoenix Indian School property.

  10. Some interesting art work here. I like the portrait in the last photo the best. I don't think I could sit on the ground and work like that for any length of time. That leg lift thing is simply out of the question.

  15. Given a choice I think I'd rather do the art thing than the bendy thing, though either takes impressive skill. Neither of which I possess.

  17. You see this in a number of places around the world and it boggles me. How people make such accurate reproductions - on the pavement - of both shape and color is amazing. But then my manual dexterity rises to the level of pushing a shutter button.

  18. Nice photos of artists at work. That first shot looks like you might have been laying down on you stomach. It's so low down.

  19. What fun Jack and talent! Pavement painting has as yet eluded me in Perth, I did hear a rumour once. :)
P.s. Don 't forget to post the pic of your bendy action :))))

  20. I'd try the art thing, I wouldn't even try the bendy thing! This loks like such a fun way of raising funds. I hope they did well.

  21. Your post inspired me to find chalk art festivals in Wisconsin, adding them to my summer must-see list!
