Farmhouse Gingerbread



This is a farmhouse in Bloomfield, a town directly northwest of Hartford.  It was probably built in the 1840s, when the squarish Italianate style was popular.  The frilly gingerbread porch was probably added later in the Victorian age.

The house would benefit from some attention.  The photographs are from the fall of 2012.

    One thing I love about 'back East' as we used to call it when I lived in California, are those fabulous porches. Plenty of room for a chair to sit on and watch the world go by.

    I'm interested in architecture. All the filigree makes me thing of its opposite, the mid 20th Century school literally Known as Brutalism.

    Does anyone live there? Y=The lawn could use some attention, too.

    I like this a lot. I wouldn't want to live in a place built in the 1840s but it is certainly attractive and appealing.
