Let's do Florida again today.
Every day millions of seashells wash ashore on the beaches of Sanibel, an island off the coast of southwest Florida. The "Sanibel Stoop" is a fond term for the way tourists walk the beach in search of the perfect shell specimen.
Funny candid shot. I've never done it in Sanibel before but I have stooped many times on Florida's beaches
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite sports! :o)
ReplyDeleteI miss so much morning walks at the beach!
ReplyDeleteWonderful images!
Léia
I'm a big beachcombing fan...
ReplyDeleteFrom her bag, it looks like she has found lots of good shells.
ReplyDeleteAt a park along our beach in Costa Rica they have a sign asking people to leave the shells. Old shells must have some role in the ecosystem.
Looks like success!
ReplyDeleteThe Niantic Stoop just doesn't have quite the same ring to it. I'm amazed at some of the shells that wash ashore here as well, especially the once popular and abundant Niantic Bay Scallop. I find them all the time on our beaches.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about how great it is to look for and pick up shells on Sanibel. How's your back, Jack? Do you have to ship your shells home?
ReplyDeleteGot to the island once. Not impressed. Ya, gotta have more than shells. Pleeeeeeeeze! Now, young ladies in bikinis might get me there a second time. Grin!
ReplyDeleteI'd find those shells are to resist.
ReplyDeletePerfect to find a warm beach to walk barefoot in the surf in January. The shells are just a bonus.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! I do love beach combing and shells and particularly on a beautiful day! Lovely capture for the day, Jack! Hope you've had a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have learned a new word today!
ReplyDeleteI'm all too familiar with the Sanibel Stoop. So much so that I rarely do it but still get a kick out of watching tourists participate. I always wonder what they do with all those seashells. Now, Jack...with regard to southwest Florida shooting, the Chairman and CEO of SPD is sputtering that we may need to make arrangements for a friendly inter-local agreement.
ReplyDeleteSanibel is a beautiful beach, and I like it best when you can find an area void of tourists.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
I had the best piece of Key Lime pie ever on Sanibel!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made my way to Sanibel....yet.
ReplyDeleteWe have a number of friends who just love to go to Florida. My law partner is there right now. It's just that I don't do nothing well and I can't figure out what to do with myself down there. We just booked our summer vacation. We're going to the Calgary Stampede - now there's some action!
ReplyDeleteLooks like my sort of place Jack .... wonderful for a morning walk.
ReplyDeleteI love your top capture.
Looks like its been a successful excursion. This is definitely one of life's simple pleasures, lovely beach shots Jack.
ReplyDeleteI would be tempted to do the Sanibel Stoop if I were there. Great exercise too.
ReplyDeletei must say, we went there last holiday (dec 2011), and i was soooo excited! i had read about it in my travle guide. and we drove and drove. and everything turned out to be private or paid parking, and the seashell museum that was quite far also didnt look like it was worth visiting. i was so disappointed...:( then we just quickly walked a bit on the beach (but we hadnt paid for the parking), and then left again. somehow i expected tooooo much, i guess. maybe next time.. :)
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how many shells can readily be found on Florida beaches. Must be nice to get away from the cold of winter.
ReplyDeleteThe Sanibel stoop - a hilarious term. And so appropriate of course.
ReplyDeleteWe were at the beach in Spain last week but I couldn't envisage walking bare legged and bare feet on the beach - not in January. This seaside scene makes me dream of warmer shores...
I love the birdshot! The amount of shells on the white sand is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI was only in Florida once, as a child. I think my mother collected a few shells.
