Lord and Burnham Greenhouses

The greenhouses at Elizabeth Park are about 100 years old.  In this season, they hold poinsettias that will be distributed around city buildings.

The greenhouses were made by Lord and Burnham, a glass house designer and manufacturer that was formed in 1849.  Elizabeth Park's greenhouses are on the National Register of Historic Places.

  1. Lord and Burnham sounds like a law firm! I like the way you got the moisture on the window.

Lots of poinsettia plants in there!

  3. Looks just like how our old greenhouses used to look back in the early 1970s.

  4. I wonder what happens to all those poinsettias in the public buildings after the holidays.

  5. There is nothing better than an historic greenhouse. They work as well today as they did when they were built. Beautiful Christmas photo.

  10. Looks very Christmassy in there. Though I did hear someone say if you want a cheap poinsettia, spray a few dock leaves red and drop them on the floor!

  13. I bet it's warm and pleasant inside. For some reason I notice that there is a Schlage handle and lock set. Sold all over around here.

  14. Greenhouses are, in themselves, generally lovely - but this shows too how important doors are. Seems to me doors are often a neglected feature in more recent architecture.
