The greenhouses at Elizabeth Park are about 100 years old. In this season, they hold poinsettias that will be distributed around city buildings.
The greenhouses were made by Lord and Burnham, a glass house designer and manufacturer that was formed in 1849. Elizabeth Park's greenhouses are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Lord and Burnham sounds like a law firm! I like the way you got the moisture on the window.
ReplyDeleteLots of poinsettia plants in there!
I like the way you took the photo through the the door's glass window.
ReplyDeleteLooks just like how our old greenhouses used to look back in the early 1970s.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happens to all those poinsettias in the public buildings after the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than an historic greenhouse. They work as well today as they did when they were built. Beautiful Christmas photo.
ReplyDeleteI love this shot with the condensation on the panes. I like the way greenhouses smell too! I'm a dork.

I agree with Lowell, Lord and Burnham does indeed sound like a law firm!! And a greenhouse filled with red!! I love it! Hope your weekend is going well, Jack! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love this peek through the window at the rows of poinsettias waiting inside.
ReplyDeleteI love this shot, Jack! Not surprised that Steffe likes it.
ReplyDeleteLooks very Christmassy in there. Though I did hear someone say if you want a cheap poinsettia, spray a few dock leaves red and drop them on the floor!
ReplyDeleteNice, including the way you created your image!:)
ReplyDeleteI like this shot...peeking through the window. Great perspective.
ReplyDeleteI bet it's warm and pleasant inside. For some reason I notice that there is a Schlage handle and lock set. Sold all over around here.
ReplyDeleteI'll take the red ones.
ReplyDeleteGreenhouses are, in themselves, generally lovely - but this shows too how important doors are. Seems to me doors are often a neglected feature in more recent architecture.
ReplyDeleteI love poinsettias. I already have a nice red one on my dinner table. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great peek into the greenhouse Jack, poinsettias are SO Christmas...must remember to look for a couple!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice picture: I would expect something more dull from a name like that...
ReplyDeleteim thinking whether to buy such a plant or not. my mom always has them around christmas...
