Susan

Can you call it a bust if it is eight to ten feet tall?  I don't know a better description, so I will.
"Susan" is a big, white, fiberglass bust by Connecticut artist and sculptor Philip Grausman.  She sits on the lawn of the West Hartford Art League, where she was unveiled just a week or two ago.  Her surface is very smooth and she has a translucent appearance.  I wonder if Susan will look as good when the pigeons discover her and when a New England winter does its thing to her.

  4. Is it fiberglass or marble? Simple elegance.

  5. Quite lovely. Yes, I hope it weathers well. Your comments remind me of the statue of Churchill in London with the electrical charge to keep the pigeons off of it.

  6. the statute may weather the same way our skin changes with age.

Maybe the artist could do some heads for the figures that you showed yesterday.

  7. Susan has a gorgeous profile Jack, she's lovely. I'm not sure about the bust thing Jack, with no shoulders she may technically just be a head!

  8. A beautiful profile and great shots and composition as always, Jack! I agree with Dave -- maybe the artist could do some heads for the figures you posted yesterday!!!

  9. 8 feet, that must look huge! I like it, though I hope you don't have "taggers" in your area, all that white must be a huge temptation for someone with a can of spray paint.

  10. It is a beautiful sculpture but, you have a great point. It will be interesting to see how it survives the elements.

  11. She is indeed lovely, but the winter will not be kind to her.

And I'm with Dave & Sylvia - too bad the hip hop shop can't work with the artist!
