Roseland Cottage is across from the green in the small eastern Connecticut town of Woodstock. It was the summer home of a wealthy New York wool merchant.
Roseland Cottage is a great illustration of the Gothic Revival style of architecture. Today it is a museum operated by Historic New England.
Roseland Cottage sits on extensive green lawns. The hedged gardens are special.
'Tis a gorgeous building but I think that the word, "cottage," is not really descriptive. When I hear the word, "cottage," I think of a little cabin on a lake!
ReplyDeleteThe architecture here is so unusual! but so interesting..and I agree with Lowell about the word!
ReplyDeleteA peculiar style and building...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why, but somehow Gothic and pink don't seem to gel for me, but there it is!! The gardens gardens do look special Jack, will we see more?
ReplyDeleteFantastic building, Jack! Great architecture and colour too.
ReplyDeleteLovely colors here Jack!

Home and garden are both gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh, I like this one very much. I love the color and all those steep gables. It is a very interesting building.
ReplyDeleteLooks much more like a mansion than a cottage. And pink! I thought Florida had the corner on pink houses! hahahahaha The expansive green and lovely plantings do indeed look special.
ReplyDeleteAre we looking through rose colored glasses Jack? :)

Not exactly my idea of a "cottage", but what a terrific, colorful old house/cottage!! Lovely flowers! Another place in your world that I would love to visit!! Enjoy your day, Jack!
ReplyDeleteWow, very beautiful gothic details indeed. I would not ind sipping fresh, hot coffee in the morning looking out of one of those windows!
ReplyDeletePink because of the Rose bit perhaps, but I tend to agree it's a bit OTT for such a fancy house. Nevertheless, I'd love to look inside. You seem to have more beautiful big houses in your area than everywhere else put together. But where do ordinary folks live?
ReplyDeleteI love this one, Jack!
ReplyDeleteYour architecture photos are stunning, Jack! You have so many beautiful houses in your area.
ReplyDeleteVery hansel and Gretel
ReplyDeleteIf that's a cottage I would like to see the main house.
ReplyDeleteI'll say YES to both. I want to see more.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, fairytale cottage! Our daughters would like living in a house like that! Great to catch up with your and your blog, Jack!
ReplyDeleteWish the CDP portal were working again....
Every village in England has a "Rose Cottage" but they don't look anything like this! Amazing piece of architecture.
ReplyDeleteLooks very pretty, a bit like English cottage style, just bigger than I have ever seen before.
ReplyDeleteExtremely nice, especially for a cottage. :)
ReplyDeleteNow that is some cottage! What a pretty color.
ReplyDeleteIt looks super inviting!
