When I bought a bunch of tulips recently, the lady in the floral department of Safeway told me that the packets of flower preservative do not work on tulips.
Instead, if you put a 1970's or earlier penny in the water, the copper will extend the life of the tulips. We did, and it works.
Kids are adorable, always curious about something!
