Even though we take it for granted that the lights will go on when we flick a switch, everything about generating, transmitting and distributing electricity safely and reliably is remarkably difficult and complex. This is part of a major substation. It is admittedly not very pretty. I wanted to emphasize the complexity.
On the first day of each month, CDP bloggers post photographs on a theme. The theme for March is "electricity."

Mission accomplished Jack. Whenever I see such a complex arrangement as this, it makes me wonder if just ONE of those many. many wires snapped, would the whole thing come to a grinding halt!!
ReplyDeleteNo doubt about that being electricity
ReplyDeleteComplex it is. Not very fun when the lights are out in the middle of winter that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteLooks very serious!Nice photo for a day theme:)
ReplyDeleteYes, and I do know the location of the nearest one. When we have major power outages during a hurricane, you want to know all about the power grids.

Power outages now shut the lights off and everything else in our house. Thank goodness it doesn't happen that often.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely succeeded - very complex indeed.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the buzzing noise!
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how much goes into getting the power to turn on your lights at home.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I plug this in?
ReplyDeleteYou theme day photo resembles mine and mine resembles yours!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Jack!
Don't say it's not pretty! I find a certain beauty in substations. There are lots of geometric lines and there is so much power there. You have to respect it. :)
ReplyDeletePS: I've also got something up along the same lines today.
We were thinking alike today, Jack!
ReplyDeleteTerrific capture for the March theme! The whole idea of electricity and the complicated, difficult process to generate and transmit it blows my mind anyway! Enjoy your day, Jack, hope you have a great one!

Yes, we do take electricity for granted... until there's a power outage! This shot looks suitably complicated. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Jack!
ReplyDeleteComplex, not especially attractive but so necessary for our way of life. What would we do without them?
ReplyDeleteIf it is too complex. Electricity is fundamental in modern life. What would our existence if permanently disappear?, all would be chaos.

Goodness yes, it is complicated but all those horizontals and verticals make it really interesting for a photographer.
ReplyDeleteI like the orderliness of it all! Good one.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that Edison pushed hard for a direct current vs alternating current for society in general, even though it's more dangerous. My family tree would be missing a few branches if he succeeded.
ReplyDeleteComplex and impressive, Jack.
ReplyDeleteI always find these very, very scary!
ReplyDeletePerfect for today! I couldn't think of where to find one of these in KC.
ReplyDeleteWarning: Do Not look at this blog while in the bathtub.

Good image - we don't record enough of the ordinary bits of life and this is VITAL to life as I know it! I hate it when there's a powercut for even a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteA crazy network of power....which I too often take for granted!
ReplyDeleteI hope you girded yourself before you shot the grid! Lots of power here. I don't understand it but I'm glad there are people who do.
ReplyDeleteVery nice shot to illustrate the complexity of electricity! I like it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing;o)

Happy day****
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Looks pretty to me.
ReplyDeleteI like the angle you took the shot on this one.
"We take it for granted?" Jack, you were here on Halloween, weren't you?
ReplyDeleteI would not want to be around there during a storm.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely complex looking. And, yet a crew or two will know what to look for and how to repair it, should something fail.
ReplyDeleteHuge stuffs there!Great capture!
ReplyDeleteLéia
Great... but am I the only one who find these things scary? :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great angle. And personally, I love the way these look. I like civilisation!
