Close-Up IV: Cole Landscape

With all this detail creating a grouping of people, it is just a small part of the landscape painting by Thomas Cole.  This is St. John in the Wilderness, 1827.

    Now you've found one of the few styles of painting I'm not partial too. I'm not sure why not, it's wonderfully executed and a terrific scene. Maybe the quality of light...Weird what appeals and what doesn't, is it not?
