Close-Up IV: Cole Landscape
With all this detail creating a grouping of people, it is just a small part of the landscape painting by Thomas Cole. This is St. John in the Wilderness, 1827.
"Ta-da!" St. John. Now you've found one of the few styles of painting I'm not partial too. I'm not sure why not, it's wonderfully executed and a terrific scene. Maybe the quality of light...Weird what appeals and what doesn't, is it not?
Looks like a group of stranded tourists.
ReplyDeleteI love this close up to see the tiny details of this wonderful painting.
ReplyDeleteIt's only when you see 'the big picture' that you realise how small the details are Jack. Brilliant comparison!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Grace and I love being able to see the details as well as the big picture! I am so enjoying this series of photos, Jack! Enjoy your day!

ReplyDeleteIt is a gorgeous painting Jack.
ReplyDeleteI love the large painting - nice to see the details!
ReplyDeleteA detail right in the middle of the painting, catching eyes and light, makes all the beauty of the picture..
ReplyDeleteSuch talent in the detail.
ReplyDeleteOh I do like this painting, the way those clouds move down to the people and around that peak... yes I like this.
ReplyDelete"Ta-da!" St. John.
