Thomas Hooker was one of the founders of Hartford. The annual Hooker Day Parade was last Saturday, close to Halloween. Given the timing and the double entendre of the name, it is an intentionally goofy parade.
Mayor Pedro Segarra marched near the front of the parade, dressed like Thomas Hooker.
Great line of beautyful portraits!
ReplyDeleteMust admit I was wondering what I'd find when I scrolled down from your title Jack haha! Great candid shots, nice hat's!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some real characters came out for the fun!
ReplyDeleteWhere there a lot of hookers there?
Another one of those guys with an interesting name.
ReplyDeleteYour mayor looks like a friendly chap.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you explained how this event got its name.
ReplyDeleteI like these portraits. Looks like it must have been a fun and funky parade!
ReplyDeleteKinda looks like Tampa's version of Gasparilla ... only everyone in Tampa is dressed like a pirate. So, the similarities are: lots of people dressed goofy with many of them sporting beads. Fun! Nice capture of the mayor.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Jack! Sounds like a fun day! Didn't know about him.
ReplyDeleteGood reason to have a parade! Entices your viewers to check closely.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an event that can cause you to laugh while taking photos!
ReplyDeleteNice series of beautiful portraits!
ReplyDeleteI love your "Hooker" parade! What fun! Terrific captures as always and a great giggle to start my day! Hope your week is going well, Jack! Enjoy!

I must say I did a double-take when I saw the title, but I figured it was something different than what I thought. Still, the name, as you suggest, gives a bit of license to let go and get goofy. Love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI love parades, they are so fun...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful portraits, Jack!
I did a double take too, lol but then you reassured me with the double entendre... You've caught some seriously cool portraits, and Mr Mayor looks very much the part!
ReplyDeleteMust have been a lot of fun costumes. Imagine growing up as a kid today with that name! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun was had by all.
ReplyDeleteThese type of community events bring people together for fun times. I like these photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic name! lol Really love the water bottle outfit there.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing that first shot I'm craving oatmeal!
ReplyDeletehee hee...
ReplyDeleteWhat great fun!
Re your comment at Oakland DP re the port: The Port of Oakland is one of the busiest on the West Coast. Containerized shipping was invented there. The first container crane went into service in 1958 and is still operational. The Longshoremen's union in San Francisco bitterly and violently fought containerization while Oakland welcomed it. Matson and American President Lines, both headquartered in San Francisco, packed up and moved across the Bay. The Port of San Francisco has never recovered.

Wonderful set of portraits!
