Bob spent yesterday pulling out the plantings at the Elizabeth Park annual garden, which I have been showing throughout the year. When he is finished, he will start planting tulip bulbs for next year's garden.
I mentioned before that Bob was a longtime foreman in the park who has continued to tend the gardens as a volunteer after his retirement. All public gardens should be so lucky!
Good work Bob. And Jack.
ReplyDeleteAh, another season comes to an end. Great work, Bob! I have enjoyed you pictures of the gardens, Jack.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if, when they cut the budget, they thought, "Bob loves this place so much, he will do it as a volunteer."
ReplyDeleteI perceived from a comment that you left on someone else's site that you had some medical tests or something like that when you were away recently. I hope all is well with you.
Nice portrait. Looks like a man who enjoys his work and obviously he does. Not too many people volunteer to keep doing their job after they retire!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate Dave's concern, but let me respond before his comment gets legs. No medical tests and I am fine. The travel was to San Francisco and Napa for fun and an industry conference.
ReplyDeleteHe is taking excellent care of the gardens. I guess these are planted with annuals instead of perennials. That sounds very expensive to me. Are the gardens privately funded?
ReplyDeleteThank you Jack! Well deserved beautiful portrait.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks so sad! This reminds me that I need to dig up my dahlias and whatnot. I planted some tulips already, but I think a skunk ate the bulbs. :( Not sure if it's worth planting more.
ReplyDeleteI need a Bob in my yard! Nice that he volunteers, does he drive far?:)
ReplyDeleteLucky for your community that some people just cannot retire! Thanks for his portrait. Hats off to Bob!
ReplyDeleteGood work Bob!
ReplyDeleteI wish a "Bob" to every garden in the world!
ReplyDeleteI can tell by his smile that there is a twinkle in his eye behind his shades. Lucky indeed. That's a lot of work for a volunteer. Thanks for this nice portrait Jack.

A master gardener for sure. He creates a work of art every year.
ReplyDeleteBravo Bob!! And... great portrait Jack, Bob surely will be happy!
ReplyDeleteHe must have really enjoyed his job to come back and volunteer. Looks like he is doing a fine job!
ReplyDeleteThere are not many like Bob around anymore. My compliments to this generous guy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob for smilingly reminding me that I need to plant my tulips!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of work ahead of him there!
ReplyDeleteThere surely aren't many like Bob around anymore! What a great guy and how fortunate the community is have him looking out for the gardens in the park! Thank you, Jack, for giving him the credit he deserves! Hope your week is going well!

I love your portraits, Jack! Now have to rush to plant tulip bulbs, lol:)
ReplyDeleteGreat dedication, but I don't blame him for wanting to stick around. It's a wonderful park.
ReplyDeleteSort of bittersweet now that the end of the season is upon us. I love the fall, but it's too brief. Now that the leaves are changing and it's a little cooler, winter feels close.
wonderfully winterized beds. I could use a Bob in. my yard
ReplyDeleteIs he a University of Washington alumnus? I'd never wear a Billiken hat - just too weird. But he does look like he has vision, in the truest sense.
