Twins
The Post Office in West Hartford Center is closing. There are always long lines in the Post Office, so it can't be closing because of a lack of business.
But, there is little available land in West Hartford Center, and the land on which the Post Office sits is pretty valuable. There are two other post offices in town. I think they just decided to turn the valuable asset into cash.
The closing will inconvenience some people, but with more and more people communicating and paying bills on the internet instead of with snail mail, the Postal Service is hemorrhaging money. I can't complain. Worse trade-offs have to be made.
My twin liked how the top photo came out. I thought it made my butt look big. He said we were just carrying lots of stuff in our pockets.
On Friday, James hosts Weekend Reflections, where you can see other photos with reflections.
Nice hat -- definitely gives the appearance of an editor-in-chief. I hope USPS doesn't close the tiny post offices in rural areas throughout the country. They're needed. (Besides, many are cute, historic and fun to photograph).
ReplyDeleteNow I know how to get a twin easily!
ReplyDeleteMy policy is to never trust window reflections. I'll be sorry to see so many p.o.'s vanish. I love the places. Crazy, I know. Did you have a good dinner last night?
ReplyDeleteYour reflection photo a week or so ago caused some people to comment that it made your legs look thin, so who can trust the windows. This photo makes you look schizophrenic. My late father, without corrective glasses, had double vision, so your photo replicates his perspective.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Postal Service, my mother told us that when she grew up in Worcester, Mass. in the 1920's and 1930's the mailman delivered mail to their house twice a day, morning and afternoon. Seems unimaginable today.
The Post Office in downtown Scottsdale sat on land that became surrounded by the growth of the Scottsdale hospital complex and the Hospital coveted the Post Office land for expansion. The hospital bought a large furniture store and adjoining warehouse that closed about 2 miles away and worked a trade with the the Postal Service. The furniture warehouse space allows the Postal Service to park their vehicles indoors -- a huge benefit in Arizona.
Very interesting photo, I like it!
ReplyDeleteI like this reflection Jack!
ReplyDeleteYou probably gained weight after that magnificent dinner and dessert you had last night to celebrate your natal day! I am so sorry to see all the closing of our nation's post offices...an agency with an interesting history. In addition, I grieve the loss of jobs for all the workers. We decided not to complain about junk mail because it gives some of them employment.
ReplyDeleteGreat twins! Technology is putting many companies out of work, unfortunately. Not sure what the future holds, but something needs to change.
ReplyDeleteYou and your twin made a good job when photographying this post office. Your picture will soon be historical for the building's memory (and is already special, because we seldom see your twin in pictures, I wonder why?.. :o)))
ReplyDeleteTwin photographers take twice as many great photos!!
ReplyDeleteYou and your twin look great! No butt problem that I can see! It is sad to see so many things closing these days and one can't help but wonder when/where does it stop and when does this country get back on track -- guess it would start by eliminating politicians! Have a great weekend, Jack!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
a really great reflection!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the hat Jack, am a big 'chapeau' wearer myself! Shame about the smaller post offices, but as you say it's much easier and quicker to do a lot of things on the computer now! Hope you and your twin have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI can see you and your twin are very much alike!
ReplyDeleteCanada Post is closing down post offices too but it won't likely happen soon in my village as it's important to a wide rural delivery service too. (At least I hope I'm right about that.)
Well, I hope that you and your twin enjoyed your b-day celebration last night and that you shared some cake.
ReplyDeleteI like the new layout and font!
Bises,
Genie
I can't believe you and your "twin" are still dressing alike Jack. I have identical twins in my family and they gave that up after middle school ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is just great! Well spotted, Jack.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing is happening here with the post offices although they are opening smaller counters in local stores which actually provide longer service hours.
ReplyDeleteGood looking twins!
Clever capture!
ReplyDeleteWell hello again! Was this before or after your birthday? :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish we would still write and use snail mail. I am ridiculously happy when I see a postcard in my mailbox...
P.S.: stay safe, Irene is all over the news here...
ReplyDeleteThat is such a funny picture, Jack ! I love the tittle !
ReplyDeleteHey Jack great double self portrait! :)
ReplyDeleteOne twin is definitely slimmer than the other. Both twins know the truth. ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is a good weekend for "self-portraits-in-glass" - I've got to sort thru my recent shots for a slimming window.
Wow you have twins ^_^ awesome composition.
ReplyDeleteReflection
You and your brother should stay indoors and dry this weekend. But watch out, he cheats at cards.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. I really hope Irene snubs you and passes you by.
ReplyDeleteCaught! :))

Beau dédoublement ! Jolie idée !
ReplyDeleteIdentical twins! and both of you carrying too much in your pockets - maybe that's my problem!
ReplyDeleteReally interesting sign of the times for a post office to close. Great way to reflect on an issue and on yourself!
