Take Your Pick

1.  Crop for the rule of thirds, put the painter on the right side


2.  Yeah, crop for the rule of thirds, but the action is vertical.

3.  Forget about the rules of composition.  The building is gorgeous, so do it horizontally and don't crop too tightly.  Let folks enjoy the building.

    I like the vertical shot. The painter arching to paint the trim adds a nice element to the photo.

    I definitely like the third (non)crop best. The painter is perfectly placed in the shot and it is a nice building!

    I like your rationale. Rules are made to be broken. I've heard that somewhere.

    Actually, I like the vertical "action" best...it best portrays the danger this guy is in ... just a reach of another inch is gonna send him crashing down!

    You definitely made the right choice Jack. Can just hear the painter thinking "must.. just.. reach.. that.. last.. spot" and totally admire his casual little ankle twist! Btw love your post for yesterday and agree that it is so nice these days to see someone with faith in an 'honour box' also 'flower power'....!!

    The rule of thirds is only a GUIDE! I like the third photo because it IS a beautiful building. :)

    Well it reminds me of a series of photos that circulated through email about "Dumb Things Men Do". Hmmm this could have been a contender.

    I am a building lover so will have to go with #3 as well. However would love to see it cropped as you did with number one except with the painter to the left. That way you still see the beautiful building but put more of the focus on the painter.
