Government

The Greater Fool Theory is supposed to be a principle of economics and investing.  Who knew that it also applies to Democrats and Republicans?  We are facing an economic disaster if the debt ceiling is not raised immediately, and yet the President and Congress play political games.

They all disgust me.  Fasten your seatbelts.

  3. Well, I have much to say on this topic. It ain't the prez who's playing games. But that's another story. Another wise man once said that "Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels."

People fly American flags on their cars down here to show their "patriotism." Not so. If one was anti-government and working to overthrow it, the first thing he/she would do would be to fly the flag!

  9. It will be a rough ride. Seems like our current group of politicians like to take it down to the wire. I wish they would consider what is best for the people of this country instead of what is best for their donkeys or elephants.

  10. The American people elected a divided government so it only makes sense that each side of the debate has to give a little. I agree with Regina, they need to start thinking about what is good for the country and not what is going to get them reelected.

  11. Mark Twain always says it just right and he's definitely a favorite of mine -- as you probably know. As for those AHs in Washington, I don't think I've ever been as disgusted and fed up as I am now -- with both sides! They make me sick at my stomach -- great for weight loss, bad for the brain. We are indeed facing an economic disaster if they don't get their act together and stop the games! Great post, Jack!

  12. I am with Sharon and Regina on this one. Although I think the media plays a big part in heightening the fear.

  13. I'm with you on that point: all politicians are disgusting me, more and more, no matter the country where they are..

  15. Love this quote!

It's not just the U.S. that goes down if the games don't stop.

  16. All politicians (or most) seem to be the same! Mark Twain was a great man.

  17. And Samuel Johnson observed that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Could that be applied to some of our leaders?

  19. There was so much to say about this... I think you already know my feelings regarding politicians and other owners of the world, so don't get me started! :-)

  21. A great quote!

As for current politics, I find that most bloggers shy away from the topic, at least you don't.

I'll join Sharon, Regina and Randy.

Thanks also to Jacob and Bob Crowe for their wise words - flag waving has never gotten anyone out of an economic crisis.
