Community boathouse on the Connecticut River in Hartford.
This is part of the riverfront park system that runs for miles on both the Hartford and East Hartford sides of the river. The boathouse has been constructed in anticipation that the spring floods will flow through the lowest level. The park in which the boathouse sits will be flooded each spring, but it emerges unharmed when the water drains away. The riverfront has been re-engineered to give the floodwaters a place to go.
It looks very calm and peaceful. Well-kept grounds. Do trains still use the railroad bridge in the background?
ReplyDeleteThe Connecticut is such a beautiful river, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'll bring cake to spend an afternoon there. I won't row though due to my tendonitis.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the skull with the motor? hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI just love that word 'boathouse' it summons up all sorts of lovely summery images, lovely picture Jack.
ReplyDeleteGreat planning and such a beautiful area in return.
ReplyDeleteWow...a really beautiful, well kept area. Nice
ReplyDeleteSome interesting engineering went into that construction. It brought back a childhood memory of seeing houses close to the Mississippi River edge built up on very tall stilts so that the water would pass underneath when the floods came each spring.
ReplyDeleteTaking floods for granted. I think I should send this post to a couple of Mayors I (don't want to) know.
ReplyDeleteProviding a flood plain is a much more effective and cheaper way to deal with floods than dams and levees.
ReplyDeleteRowing is hard. Julie and I tried it once. We have just recently bought a rowing machine. I need to get on it more often.
Lovely, peaceful looking place and so well kept. Wise idea to be prepared for floods! Great capture as always, Jack! Hope you have a great day!

now this is a peaceful Sunday image. I would like to walk down the river and enjoy the day. Alas, I have to go and help my mother move into her new house. Opening boxes and unpacking is my destiny today
