My dad had a special fondness for these boats. I remember once going through the Chris-Craft factory and watching the boats being built. My dad always talked about sailing around the world. I think the closest he came was a cruise to Alaska.
Jack, I got so enthralled with your boat photos that I forgot to answer your question. Yes, I am involved with the group that has formed to open the Tovrea Castle. They have formed a board of directors and my best friend David is on that board. He asked me to help him organize the docents and do the docent training. It should be fun.
I do love the boats! And what terrific captures! They remind me of one an uncle of mine had years and years ago and I do remember how fun it was to go skimming over the water in it!! Thanks for the memories, Jack! Enjoy your day!

These boats remind me of the boat-builder's craft. I used to know one, long since deceased, who built boats for the Lake Erie crowds. He gave me a scale model of one he built and my daughter has it.
He built his boats out of the finest woods in the middle of his barn on his farm. He ran the farm most of the year and fiddled with boat building in the winter.
He made more money building one boat each year than he did farming all year long with all that work.
There is absolutely nothing like a Chris Craft! Members of my family had them when I was a kid and I can still remember the way they smelled and looked and handled.
Yes, we've done a bit of traveling...up to Tennessee and back. Beautiful area.
I've never understood why people used to make boats out of mahogany. It's really dense and heavy, isn't it? But then what I know about boat design could fit in a thimble. It does look very beautiful.

There's a race up here where all the boats must be made from cardboard. Go figure!
