Last week was United Arts Week in Hartford, sponsored by the Greater Hartford Arts Council. There were events everywhere, every day, all day. On Thursday, artist Tao LaBossiere marked an outline on the brick walkway of the Old State House. People were invited to grab a paintbrush and have a go at painting it. Or painting whatever else they wanted to paint. I stopped by for a while.
At this time of year, there are so many things happening, it is hard to get to all of them. That is a good thing.
Looks like a fun day! Great, colorful shot. I love how you framed the second one.
ReplyDeleteI find street painting a fascinating idea! Imagine putting all that work into something that will eventually wash away. But wait! Maybe it's not so different from making a fantastic fancy meal only to have it consumed in less than half an hour. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is QUITE cool.
ReplyDeleteIt makes more sense to do street art with paint rather than chalk. At least more people will be able to admire the work before it fades away.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and I think a great project. So, what did you draw (paint) - oh, wait, you're good at painting the town! :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right about people heading north. It's wonderful! Much less traffic everywhere!
What fun! I love events like this.
ReplyDeleteLove public art sponsored for a community event. Brings to mind that eliminating fine arts in schools when there is a budget crunch is a poor decision and very short-sighted. Perhaps these occasions will influence school board members in a positive way to keep the fine arts as important curriculum subjects.
ReplyDeleteCool concept. I'm a little surprised, though, they did it on bricks. Btw, I can relate to what you're talking about with so many events taking place. Last Saturday there were three events here that I wanted to attend -- all occuring at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great event! Love the street paintings! Nice to be able to focus on art and beauty rather than crappy politics for a change. Terrific post for the day, Jack!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
wow this is a huge project there!
ReplyDeleteThe second composition is amazing, I like a lot the colors, the street artists are very talented!

It sure makes life interesting with all the events! Love the colours in your pic.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a good thing. Community events like this are so beneficial to our cities. Glad you were able to get there and photograph it. I love the mural.
ReplyDeletevery creative, beautiful documentation!
ReplyDeleteSo did you take up a paintbrush?
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot. Colour and art are so badly needed.
That is definitely a good thing and this looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope the paint is washable...
ReplyDeleteI like this street painting. We have it happening in KC during the summer, but I have never been to see - the heat of summer has always kept me away. Guess I'll have to tolerate the heat and go see.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Your smalest photo has also got a great composition/framing. Arty.
ReplyDeleteLove bringing art to the people! Two nice photos but of course that second one was perfect! Show us more, please...
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
I do love all the summer activities like these that we will see over the next few months. Makes you feel so cheerful dont they.
ReplyDeleteThe painting makes the place more cheerful.
ReplyDeleteI would love to actually see a street artist at work. You did a great job!

Very cool to see so many people getting into art! This fellow was really into it and quite gifted in painting art compared to me, anyway.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! Do you know Julian Beever's work? He's the best! He was in Lisbon a couple of months ago but I didn't managed to go and watch him work...
ReplyDeleteSome people are talented. I really like your second photo.
