Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch

I showed Hartford's Sailors' and Soldiers' Arch last year, but fewer of you were looking at this blog in those days.  It is one of Hartford's iconic images, so I expect that my eye and camera will be drawn to it again.

This was shot a week ago, before the rains came . . .

  1. It's strange to discover such an architecture in USA.. I 'd imagine that kind more in Germany.
I wonder about the story behind..

  10. It looks like it should be attached to a castle, but the rest of the building is missing.

  12. Now I would not expect to see anything like this in the States well, maybe Disneyland (or The Villages)! I like it, though. Iconic, heh? Like Jack?

    Keep swingin'!

  13. Beautiful image. Is there a Soldiers and Sailers home to go with the arch?

  14. What a beautiful place and what a gorgeous day you had -- then!! Superb capture and it does look more like European structures than most in the US. I love it and I love your composition, lovely green and beautiful skies! Perfect! Enjoy your weekend, Jack!

  23. This looks like something out of a fairytale or from Europe, Jack. Are you sure this isn't a photo you shot in say...the Czech Republic? :)

  24. Not something I would think you would find in the U.S but hey Phoenix has a castle so I guess anything is possible.
