Sedna

This sculpture by Hartford artist Karen Petersen stands near the pond in Elizabeth Park.  It was funded by the Greater Hartford Arts Council, which is responsible for much of the new public art installed around here in the past decade.

Sedna is said to be the goddess of the sea and marine animals in Inuit mythology.

    Lovely sculpture and seems inviting to touch with its smooth stone reflecting the general temperature of the season... great second photo with the picnic scene framed within the art!

    I agree with Genie, those sculptures are just asking to be touched! So cool and smooth definitely like something you would relate to the water.

    Now how did Dave know that I'd like this!! He is indeed accurate. I love the smooth lines and the simple yet highly effective shape. The top photo with the dash of red and the bottom framing of a relaxing picnic adds to the charm of the photo!!

    Excellent composition. The Sedna sculpture seems so silly in some sense for its snail-like appearance.

    It also reminds me of a seal. Or one of those black leeches that would suck your blood in the cold waters of Minnesota.

    You Hartfordians are most interesting. I wonder if the woman framed in that first shot belongs to the Red Hat Society?

    Smooth and sensual. I bet many viewers are tempted to to stroke it. I like the way you've photographed it, the first with yhe woman and red hat in the centre and the second with the the people sitting in the grass. Well done, Jack!
