For those who are not sports fans, March Madness is college basketball's year-ending tournament. Most fans, including me, will be watching men's college basketball for the next three weeks. A smaller number, also including me, will be watching women's basketball.
Ohio State's men's basketball team will start the tournament ranked #1 in the country and the University of Connecticut's women's team is also ranked #1. Both also won their conference championships. The UConn men's team won the Big East tournament and the Ohio State women won the Big Ten championship. So, I have four good chances for favorite teams to go deep into the tournament.
Although I have lived in Hartford for three decades, I worked in Ohio for six years, until last summer. My loyalties are divided. I expect to log many hours in front of the TV in the coming weeks, changing my shirts back and forth from blue-and-white to scarlet-and-gray. Go Huskies! Go Buckeyes!
Good to know where your allegiance lies, Jack. I'm thrilled and amazed my Michigan State Spartans made it to the Big Dance after their dismal season. As for your Buckeyes, I'm always happy in these situations to root for a Big Ten team --- as long as it isn't Michigan. Go Green!
ReplyDeleteOh oh! Methinks you're going to end up a raging schizophrenic within two weeks. The only cure, methinks, is for you to quit college basketball cold turkey.
ReplyDeleteBut seeing as how that probably ain't gonna happen, maybe you should spend more time on the golf course. Or break your TV.
I remember seeing something about UConn. It was in a navy movie, I believe. The captain of the sub says to his exec, "You've got the con."
A true basketball fan!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are going to have an exciting three weeks. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteYOu are a dedicated basketball fan! Go team!
ReplyDeleteYou can be sure I will be watching March Madness. My colors are crimson and blue. :D
ReplyDeleteRock Chalk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you see that BU actually made it?!
ReplyDelete(Add a third team to that list!)
Have fun!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy - I am not a big basketball fan but do love sports so can relate to your anticipation of exciting times ahead!
ReplyDeleteI'm not very sporty person, but I love this photo!
ReplyDeleteVery cool shot! Enjoy, Jack! :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about basketball but I know something about divided loyalties in other sports!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite time of the year, March Madness. TV at it's finest. Go Jayhawks....
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about this basket ball tournament, but I would perhaps hope for a win by Ohio State. I worked indirectly for them, in Columbus, during summer 1965!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are UK fans here and the guys love March Madness.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! Fun shot!
ReplyDeleteHave yourself a fine ol' time, Jack! Best wishes to your teams. I don't have a horse in this race.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to USC, UCLA was the champion in basketball... The most exciting game I ever saw was when SC won by a point (or so) against the Bruins. The other most exciting TV game was when Yugoslavia beat USSR in the 1968 Olympics (for the Silver). Wish you enjoyable March Madness...I will be spending my time on different frivolities. I do like the sound of both names - Buckeyes, Huskies...can't go wrong with either.
ReplyDeletePS - according to my previous post on Torrance Ariport, it was named Zamperini Field in 1948 -- must of not been publicized as such until the '80s.
