Hill-Stead again

I showed Hill-Stead late in the fall, so I returned to it in the winter for a different atmosphere.

Theodate Pope Riddle, the architect of Avon Old Farms School, shown a couple of weeks ago, also assisted in the design of this house.  She lived here with her parents and later with her husband.

Hill-Stead has some similarities to the Mount Vernon replica I showed yesterday . . . two-story columns forming a porch, symmetrical dormer windows, white siding and black shutters . . . but I think it is a unique house rather than an attempt to replicate Mount Vernon.

    I hope they had a large family to fill all that space. I agree about the angle, which adds interest to the photo.

    At first, I thought this was the house from yesterday! I'd love to check out the inside as well as meander the grounds, although that long porch looks more inviting in the fall photo.

    It's just beautiful. It looks like it was designed to be surrounded so picturesquely with snow.

    It's beautiful. It reminds me of some of the old plantation houses that are still standing around here. I really like the columns!

    It's a beautiful and elegant building and looks lovely in winter scenery, however (it's because I'm tired with winter!) I can't wait to see it in spring - I can almost envisage the fresh leaves in the trees and flowers in the lawn:)

    What a fabulous house!I imagine it full of children and cats and dogs, laughs and visitors!
    But : so much windows, and so much rooms, it must be hard to heat it!
