The Hartford Seminary building with snow in the foreground is interesting as a study in different shades of white.
I showed it before, last July. Today Hartford is experiencing rain and the forecast is for high temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday before a cold front returns on Thursday. The snowpack should start melting, so flooding will be a concern. Hartford has had 84 inches of snow so far, making it one of the five snowiest winters of all time. And March is still to come . . .
And here in St. Paul, March is normally the snowiest month. I really like the clean lines of the building. A seminary for...??
ReplyDeleteI would never guess this was a seminary without the sign in fornt. So modern.
ReplyDeleteWhiter shade of pale:)
ReplyDeleteLovely photo and very elegant building!
The other season photo shows a colorful contrast of green and white, but this all white view of the seminary in winter is just divine (pun)... The building almost looks like an igloo built of ice blocks

Kate, I was afraid someone would ask about the Hartford Seminary. As I understand it, the seminary is a liberal, non-denominational, educational institution. They appear to focus on loose issues about peace, love, morals, ethics and getting-along-together. They don't appear to have the usual religous interest in denominations, doctrine, dogma . . . or maybe even belief in a Supreme Being. This would be a good day for someone who actually knows something about the Hartford Seminary to drop in and inform us.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link that will tell you all about it:

It's highly regarded among us more liberal types...and I'd guess trains a lot of pastors for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Unitarian/Universalist, Congregational, and other mainstream groups.
I've not seen the building before, but I like it - a lot!
So beautiful building, I love the modern architecture and it's a very interesting institution.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your world there!
Léia
A very interesting building. I certainly would not have thought it was a seminary!
ReplyDeleteSo many shades of white! Rain? Cold?? Sounds like a perfect time to hit spring training.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look like a seminary to me either, but I like the modern look!
ReplyDeleteThe July view is very nice but somehow I prefer the snowy view. White on white is... lovely to me.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a LOT of snow! I do like the various shades of white.
ReplyDeleteSo much white;so much snow! i've never seen so much snow in all my life! I'm a southern girl :o)
ReplyDeleteI love that building and you are right - the snow makes a perfect setting for it! Nice one!
ReplyDeleteI agree, a modern seminary is unusual. But I like it with the snow. I am so amazed how different building look with and without snow.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Jack. I don't know how you keep inspired with all of the snow. March is a tough month with the mix of rain and snowy days, but Spring is nearing!
ReplyDeleteIn winter the building looks like stacked ice cubes. Despite some predictions, we did not have snow at sea level. I was a little sad about it but only until the sun came out and it was a warm day.
ReplyDeleteI love the way the dark trees stand out against all that white.
ReplyDeleteSnow is always a rare thing to me, so I'll take the winter version!
ReplyDeletewhat a superb building to match the snow, kind regards, Charles
