Old State House

I have shown the Old State House before, both because I like the building and because it is a central part of downtown Hartford.  I thought I would show it again today in a different season and in black and white. (One end of State House Square, which I featured yesterday, is at the right, with the glass conservatory and the ING highrise.)

The Weekend in Black and White shows other black and white photos. Take a look.

  1. Such a picturesque building no matter what the season.

  2. An interesting contrast to your post yesterday... This stately building is a contrast also to the modern buildings surrounding it... glad that it has been preserved

  3. A bit like Boston, I love the old and new high rises, this contrast that we very seldom see in Europe.

  4. Looks a bit odd in the middle of all that glass.

  5. Sorry, I'm not so keen on contemporary B&W, I always wonder what the subject would have been in color...

  6. A bit of the Colonial amid the modern.

  7. I like the contrast showing an old structure sandwiched in with new ones. Your management should be pleased as well! Now would be the time to request a review and discuss a possible raise.

  8. Very stately indeed! Snappy monochromatic snap!
BTW, is the Hartford life insurance headquarters worth a photo for your blog? I have some clients' $$ invested with them in "your backyard."

  9. A beautiful building, it looks out of place. Terrific monochrome.

  11. Somehow it looks so "American" to me - a perfect thing for a state house! Nice shot.

  14. A great comparison of architecture - so many different styles, and all so lovingly pictured.

  15. I really like this shot - the attractive and classical old building framed by the towering modern blocks. I think it works well in mono.

  17. It's a wonderful old building! And it looks great in B&W.

  18. So much contrast here - probably why the b&w works so well. Nicely done, my friend!
