Martin Luther King Day

Today is Martin Luther King Day, which has been observed for 40 years.  As is well known, the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., was a leading proponent of nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society.

I saw this King bust by Joseph Stein last summer in the Silas Bronson Library in Waterbury, Connecticut.

  1. Jack, what an appropriate post for celebrating MLK Day. Thank you for all your recent comments on my posts. Our recent winter storm and polar vortex has kept me indoors. It was only -10°F this morning, and that's not the wind chill, but a thermometer reading. The murder of Renee Good and terrorizing of Minneapolis is unforgivable.

  2. I recall when the day was named and the grumbling it caused in Illinois, who wanted to keep Columbus day. In my classroom it was a good topic and homage to the cause and the person.
