Atlantic Screw Works

Be polite, people.

This building on Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford is in a less than sterling neighborhood.  But, it has undergone a pretty good renovation.

Good to know the building is being used. Now there just needs a collection of business surround it to bring life to the neighborhood. Interesting name, could be the informal name of my university.

Maybe the initials A.S.W. will catch on as a way to refer to it.

Well, they have to be manufactured somewhere.

I'm loving this one, Jack. Such wonderful details in the bricks and the carving looks so well preserved. So glad it has been restored and hopefully the neighbourhood will improve around it.

Well, it is hard for me to be polite early in the morning -- well, any time actually, but it is a very interesting, renovated building and hopefully the neighborhood will follow suit and continue to improve!!

I'm glad that this building is re-used, and not destroyed. I like this kind of architecture, simple ,and solid.

For some reason I'm reminded of a few lines of dialogue in Tom Clancy's Patriot Games...

"Give me a screw."

"Shouldn't we finish setting up the toy first?"

"Screw, dammit!"

It does look rather nice.

It would make a great art space.

All they have to do now is replace that ugly fence with something more stylish.

My fathers family owned Atlantic Screw Works. I can remember running through there when I was a child, sliding down the shoots. All my great grandfathers inventions lining the shelves on one floor, the oily smell of all the machinery, and Horace, the buildings keeper in its downfall. It's so good to see it's remembered.
