The last post this week from the New Britain Museum of American Art is a detail of an over-sized (30" x 40"), digitally manipulated photograph on metal by the Israel-born artist, Drew Tal.
"Porcelain Promises" (2008) is a pair of photographs of a Chinese man and woman, executed in the style of old ancestral paintings. They are a recent acquisition of the museum.
Beautiful detail, Jack!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there are many people who could withstand that level of scrutiny of their lips or skin. I know I couldn't.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I just went to a new dentist this week and in addition to x-rays they took macro photos of my teeth, including with a mirror in my mouth to photograph the back side of my teeth. That enabled them to show me exactly what the condition of each tooth is, which is informative, but it was way too much detail.
And they emailed to me a a copy of the photos. I just opened the email on the computer a few minutes ago. I think I better get up and brush my teen again.
A very interesting image! Must be fascinating to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

Oh yes. It's in the details here. I like this one, Jack.
ReplyDeletei googled the artist after seeing your post today. I like and appreciate much of modern art and the merger of different media, but I don't think I'd want to hang his work in my home. I'd need a far more contemporary residence (and deep pockets) to do that!
ReplyDeleteI like this work of art. The detail in the work is amazing.
ReplyDeleteIf those lips could talk......... what would they say?
ReplyDeleteThought provoking photo on CDP and just happens to be parked next door to ours!!!!!!!
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteTechnically perfect, but I can't really see the art in this...
ReplyDeleteI just checked out the full image Jack, amazingly gorgeous woman, and I like the detail you picked..Those are very kissable lips if ever I saw some!! Very unusual style Drew Tal has, tres original oui!!
ReplyDeletevery interesting work. i would love to try to put photos on metal and enlarge them. quite an interesting concept
ReplyDeleteI took the link to the website - Tal's work is very interesting, makes you stop and look. I like your 'detail' too. Aren't human lips a lovely shape? I keep thinking that when I look at my baby granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteI really like this one. Those lips are so luscious!
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed this series. Maybe you can take us through another museum?
Wow! Luscious!
ReplyDeleteAttractive, almost hypnotic.. great picture and art.
ReplyDeleteFantastic and such incredible detail! I, too, have really enjoyed this series, Jack! Thanks for sharing this wonderful museum with us! Enjoy your day!

Ooh, now I'm humming "lips like sugar, sugar kisses..."
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks interesting! To answer your question, yes the Lensbaby mostly blurs the edges. You can control this though by the various aperture rings that can be fitted ontop of the lens. It's fun to play around with.
ReplyDeletethis is amazing, love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely and interesting image!
ReplyDeleteBoy, you sure know how to crack a smile!
ReplyDeleteI always find it fascinating how artists come up with their own style. This photo is another reason I am so pleased with art, it is unique and personal.
ReplyDeleteThat is just amazing. I will have to Google this artist.
ReplyDeleteI assume there was more to the pair of photographs and you just chose to capture the lips? Very interesting? My favorite of the week!
ReplyDeleteVery powerful image but I'm glad you gave us a link to the full picture so we could get the context.
ReplyDeleteTop notch photo. Great stuff
