CT Fastrak

Connecticut built a $567 million bus rapid transit system between Hartford and New Britain,
over abandoned rail rights of way, a distance of 9.4 miles.  Sleek new buses travel the route.

The annual cost is $17 million, 75 percent more than the original estimated operating cost.  The buses are nearly always empty or carry one or two passengers.
There are reasons Connecticut is almost broke . . .

Yikes! Everyone makes mistakes... even me. The difference is that my mistakes are not as costly.

Will it be a lesson learned?

Wow! Did they not check for demand before going ahead!

I wonder why they didn't consider high speed rail.

Sounds rather like our Busway in Cambridge which cost way over budget. It is well-used however, though doesn't appear to have had the slightest effect on lowering traffic volumes on the areas roads.

They're making similar discoveries on a project in Seattle. And they wonder why people dislike government.
