The Only Thing Certain is Change

A new and fancier building on Naples' main street is taking shape.  Unfortunately, it replaces some of the small one-story buildings that added character.  But, developers aren't done yet.
Now there is a big hole in the ground next door.

I am not opposed to development.  Many times it is an improvement.  I am just sad to see the smaller and quirkier buildings that housed local shops and restaurants being replaced with new buildings a bit too grand, uniform and big for the street, and that price out the little guys.  An eclectic mix was nicer.

Change... it is happening everywhere.

I tend to have a particularly low opinion of developers, from personal experience. Their word is worthless unless proven otherwise.

I totally agree, Jack!

Agreed. Is historic preservation much of a force in your area?

Change isn't always bad but rampant gentrification can eliminate affordable housing and drive out small business.
