Out of the Jurisdiction: St. Armands Circle Art Festival II

I was about to leave when I ran across Kathryn and Diane.

Kathryn designs and makes vintage-style hats, wraps and dresses from silks and lace that she rescues.

Kathryn is staying with her friend Diane while she displays at the art festival.
Diane helped out in the booth.

Out of the Jurisdiction: St. Armands Circle Art Festival I

I had to make a quick trip to Tampa.  On the way back, I stopped to see an art festival in Sarasota.

Ted Davis prints his photographs on shiny aluminum, which makes the colors pop and the light glow.

St. Armands Circle has classical statues all over the place.  I couldn't pass by without clicking.

Cindy Hirt sparkles at least as much as her turquoise and green framed mirrors.

It is easy to see that she did the painting.   Michelle Hinz said that, even with her paint-spattered apron, it is amazing how many people ask if she is the artist.

Enjewel

Enjewel is a boutique on Fort Myers' main street.  It carries women's clothing, jewelry and accessories.  Enjewel was started 14 years ago by Lynne (mother) and Vanessa (daughter) and has been in its current location for five years.  When I was there, a dozen women browsed the collection.

What do we call dresses and jewelry that are too elegant to be called funky and too new
to be called vintage?  Individualistic.  Yes, that is what I will call them.
A women wearing an Enjewel dress won't find her best friend wearing the same one.

Golf Safari Miniature Golf

Maybe a bunch of wild animal statues makes you focus on putting the golf ball?

Bayfront

Bayfront is a colorful complex on Naples Bay.  It has retail on the first floor and residences above.
Plus, bars and restaurants aplenty.

Manatee Park

In the winter, manatees ("sea cows") like the warm water of a canal between the Caloosahatchee and Orange Rivers, where the recirculation water from a power station is discharged.
(Linked to Monday Mural.)

The property is owned by Florida Power & Light but maintained as a state park.

Manatees don't have much fat, so they migrate toward warm water when a cold spell hits Florida.

A couple dozen manatees were there when I visited.  They spend most of their time submerged, at most exposing their backs.  Nostrils appear above the water line for an instant to catch a breath.

This manatee bears scars from boat propellors.

Vietnam Memorial Wall

A half-scale Vietnam Memorial Wall was dedicated in Punta Gorda in November 2016.

The black granite wall has the names of all 58,000 men and women
who lost their lives in that controversial war.

(And the answers to many questions yesterday, no, I didn't buy a boat.
I just went there to take photographs.  Sick?  Yes, I agree.)

Naples Boat Show

The 50th annual Naples Boat Show took place this past weekend.
More than a hundred boats of all different sizes were set up in a field at Naples Airport.

Jensen's Marina

Jensen's is an old-fashioned blue collar marina on the posh island of Captiva.

Henry is a snowy egret that is fed un-saleable shrimp by the guys who work at Jensen's.

Captiva

Captiva is the island just west of Sanibel, connected by a short bridge.
It has many expensive homes (like the one in the last photo) but the small commercial
area prides itself on its funkiness.

Palmetto Ridge High School Marching Band

The Palmetto Ridge band marched in the Martin Luther King Jr. parade.

Today they are marching in the Presidential Inauguration parade in Washington.
They raised $130,000 from Naples people to pay for their trip.

Can we skip negative comments about the Inauguration?
These kids are excited to participate.

Mercato Traffic Circle

I like the traffic circle outside Silverspot Cinema in the Mercato shopping center.

Bravo, Masa!

Masa is a Mexican restaurant in the Mercato, a busy upscale shopping center in North Naples.
It has a striking foliage wall.  And, whoever laid out the bar has an artistic temperament.

Marching to the Beat of a Different Drum

There is one in every group.
Anhinga.

If I say it often enough, maybe I will eventually remember . . . )

More Joy!

I ran into Joy again.  She said she loved the photos I posted in December but said there should have been some full length shots.  So, we went around the building where there was a bigger white wall.

Thanks, Joy.

Another Bunch of Random Photographs

This is what the weather people mean when they say, "A front is moving in."

What are you all looking at?

It is always fun to watch kids being kids.

I read that mirroring the posture of the person with whom you are talking builds rapport.

An iPhone takes pretty good night photographs, don't you think?
