Sunflowers

Each July I drive to Griswold in eastern Connecticut to see Buttonwood Farm's sunflower fields.
Buttonwood Farm is a terrific ice cream stand.  But, even more important,
they are a generous supporter of the Make a Wish Foundation,
which supports children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Buttonwood plants 12 acres of sunflowers, and when they bloom in July, they offer bouquets of cut sunflowers for sale, and they give hayrides and "cow train" rides through the sunflower fields.

Bravo, Buttonwood Farm!

This friendly young woman was in front of me in the line to buy sunflower bouquets.
She had such a nice personality, I had to ask for a photograph.

I love sunflowers. We don't have them planted here as much, so I never got the chance to take some photos of them myself.

What a spectacular place this is! I dream come true for a photographer and I see a few taking advantage in your second shot. The photo opportunities are endless. And, they support a wonderful cause to boot!

One of those rides through the fields must be something.

I love your pic with all the flowers pointing away from you! It's like you are all looking at something together, Jack!

Beautiful. They seem to bloom a bit later up here, generally more at their peak in August.

That's a very worthwhile charity and one which paid for a holiday at Disney World for a courageous young man that I used to help.

You beat me to it, Jack. I was there this afternoon for ice cream and sunflowers. I'll be posting some pictures this week. Always a nice place to visit, but especially so when the sunflowers are in bloom.

Toto, we're not in Kansas any more!

My wife is from Kansas. I actually stopped on my way home from work today and bought her some sunflowers.

This rivals the tulips of Washington's Skagit Valley. It must be quite a sight. How could anyone stay unhappy around a sunflower field?
