Edison Festival of Light 5K

The annual Edison Festival of Light 5K race was run yesterday along the riverfront in Fort Myers.

Number 1 led from the start.
Update:  Thanks to John (below) and the local newspaper, the winner was
Eliud Ngetich from Kenya, whose time was a fraction of a second under 14 minutes.)

Don't ever try to outsprint a kid approaching the finish line.

You've gotta admire determination.

Many runners wear costumes.  No, I don't know why.

And the people in the crowd can be interesting.  And cute.

Great photos of the event, Jack. A little research unearthed the fact that No 1 is Eliud Ngetich from Kenya and you can read about him here:

Fun shots of this event. For some reason, the photo of the winner made me think of that movie from years ago "The Gods Must Be Crazy".

Looks like a great event, Jack, and I guess it wasn't too hot this year.

Nice to be in a place where this is possible in February. Number 2 is a great pan shot.

Some of those strides are amazing.
(But I admit it: the little kitty in the last shot is my favorite.)

The Festival of LIghts 5K has become quite a big event. I ran it once several years ago and vowed never to participate again. The organizers and volunteers were rude, unfriendly and not interested in making it a fun event for the non-competitive average Joe. I used to run a lot of 5Ks…and, that one was the worst. Ever.
