Runners Up

Yesterday's post was "photo of the year."
Here are some other 2013 photos that I almost picked.

I loved this photo, and it got more comments than any other, but I didn't pick it for "photo of the year" because nature created it, not me.  The sunset was spectacular.  I just happened to be in a good location with my camera, tripod and shutter release.

This was my favorite fall foliage photo.  I liked the sun flare.  Viewers didn't say much about it.

This was a very popular photograph, but it was taken somewhere in the Carolinas while I was driving between Hartford and Naples for the season.  I thought the "photo of the year" for a blog like this should be in Florida or Connecticut, not an "out of the jurisdiction" photo.

This recent "out of the jurisdiction" South Africa photo amazed me.  I couldn't believe that I managed to line up the transmission towers so perfectly while speeding on a highway and shooting out of the passenger window.

And this is my personal favorite for 2013.  Like the last two, it is an "out of the jurisdiction" photograph.  I thought the stonework in the floor of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice was dazzling, and I liked the subtle way that other visitors were present through their shadows.

It's hard to chose when there are so many good photos. My favorite is the photo of the marshes!

Loved the "out of the jurisdiction" photo. Your photo of the year was super cute and speaks volumes of our consumerism. The look, the look, the look. Twins on twins.

Happy New Year. Here's to another great year of photoblogging.

You had a tough choice. I love that top photo but the Carolina waterway is a fantastic shot too. Great shots, all.

You definitely had quite a few great photos to chose from, Jack!

Yes, they're all winners too. You snapped some beautiful moments in 2013, Jack. Don't give nature all the credit on your first shot. The world is full of beautiful moments like that one but we can't share them unless a photographer "just happened" to be in the right place at the right time. And lucky us when he or she is.

You have a great eye, Jack. I really like the perspective in the Carolina's shot.

Love that first one. That would be my favorite if there were a color catagory.

I really like the transmission towers out of that handful. But yesterday's photo was surely the best!

You did well to show us your runner ups, they're a joy to look at.
My favorites are the swamp in the Carolinas with the spectacular sky reflection and the perfect alignment of power lines. Kudos for both!

All excellent shots Jack but I have to say your South Africa image is seriously fantastic, well done on capturing a shot like that while in a moving vehicle!
