Everyone's A Photographer

The Naples Players is a 60-year old group that
offers about 220 performances a year in the Sugden Theater
on Fifth Avenue South, the main shopping
street in Olde Naples.

Pity Nikon and Canon and Olympus, etc., now that
everyone has an iPhone or iPad or their equivalents.
I used a Canon DSLR on a tripod, but
his photo was probably just as good.
And his equipment was lighter.

They say cell phones will replace cameras. I'll be staying with my Canon DSLR. Most people take pictures with their phones and I prefer to take photographs.

It's true that many phones take excellent photos. Your DSLR did a great job here too. :)

all those sparkly lights are so pretty!

Your DSLR on a tripod produces photos that an iPhone cannot, but an iPhone has the convenience that one always has it with them.

iPhones will replace most point-and-shoots, but never DSLRs.

I think people look silly taking pictures with their ipads! The local camera stores here still seem to be doing an awful lot of advertising.

Beautiful photo! It is amazing how much photography has changed over the years. I remember when my dad taught me how to develop film and print my own photos in our make-shift dark-room (the upstairs bathroom).

Beautiful capture! I do love the lights! I'm not fond of phones -- of any kind, although I realize they are a necessity these days! Hope your week is going well, Jack!

That's more a problem that a solution, not sure photography is better off this way...

I'm loving the warm weather outfit worn here :). The lights look great and you are so right about taking photos these days. My problem at the moment is finding the time!

I beg to differ... I've seen lots and lots of phone shots and most of them lack something...

True, I've seen phone snaps that are far more advanced than my old point-and-shoot. But your image is beautiful - I'm sure that phone snap wouldn't ever compare!

Yes Jack everyone's taking pics but I don't think the clarity is as good as our Canon DSLR's ... well that's what I tell myself.
Great pic !

For now, I will stick with my Canon. Fun sometimes to capture a pic with my phone, but it is just not for real photographs. BTW, this looks like my kind of holiday event. Warm temps, festive light, and shorts!! lol

What a pretty spot! I shouldn't have too strong an opinion since I haven't tried an "i" anything, but wide angle? Zoom? Macro? I think they have their limits. And I doubt if his shot is as good as yours...

Nice capture.

i think it looks a bit stupid to take pictures with your ipad, but maybe thats just me...

Well we "seasoned" photographers and bloggers seem to be in agreement. iphones are "okay" but cannot compare with DSLR cameras. Your light photo is terrific.
