Back in the West End

Yesterday's houses were from Norwich, but today we are back in Hartford.
The West End is a pretty neighborhood of houses from the late 19th and early 20th century.
It is not uncommon to find great houses with multiple colors of
paint highlighting the architectural details.

It was the paint highlighting that caught my eye. It's something I'm not used to seeing.

Great looking older homes, I can't help but feel, though, that the 2nd one is top heavy. Looks quite unbalanced. Thanks for weighing on photo software. I don't do much editing either (yet). But, with Lightroom, I really like the simplicity of watermarking a group of photos and sending them wherever I want. In other news, if you haven't heard we're getting DRENCHED on the west coast of Florida. We've had 5.5-8 inches in Sarasota over the past 32 hours.

Beautiful old homes! I'd love to live in one of these. But I might need a full-time gardener. :)

PS: In the "old days" Niagara Falls provided all the power for people in this region. That's also why our power companies are called "Hydro". :)

Truly beautiful houses!

Jack, if I remember well, you said you didn't know much about the role of Portugal during WWII, right? I think you might enjoy the small series I started today on my blog.

These homes are stately, but I would hate to think what their heating bill is like in the winter.

Really beautiful houses, the first looks very inviting to me, I'm doing a little thought... ;-)

These are gorgeous homes Jack. I especially like the second one.

The first house could easily be found in Berkeley and Oakland. We call them Brown Shingles.

Beautiful Victorian homes. These are called "Painted Ladies" in San Francisco where they often have three and four color paint jobs. Fine photos.

Beautiful!

They are both equally as nice.

I'm not sure I've seen a paint job quite like the top one. (It almost looks like a candy cane to me.) But they are certainly beautiful old homes.

Great images of rather ornate homes.

It's great these homes are being so well maintained.
