Out of the Jurisdiction: Venice II

The Basilica San Marco glistens in the evening.  But, with all of the golden glory around me, I couldn't take my eyes off the dazzlingly beautiful stone floors.  This image is supposed to show both the intricacy and the simplicity, while also suggesting the other visitors to the cathedral by their shadows.

The bottom photo shows what everyone else was looking at.

Thank you for the link. I agree , the faraway view is enough..

Such a stunning city

To imagine all this great work was done by hand without the aid of modern tools is amazing!

The pattern in the first photo made eyes pop wide open. Otherwise my senses like it. In fact you did a great job with both shots. The second photo has so much detail in it. It looks like it was a challenge under low lighting conditions.

Brattcat is right - these are a feast for the senses. But I've heard the basilica is threatened by rising waters...say it isn't so.

What wonderful sights you had in your vision. I found in these beautiful cities that I often get sensory overload and have to slow down and rest occasionally. The floor's design definitely is amazing. What other word can one use?!

That first one would make a heck of a jigsaw puzzle. Whew!

Mind boggling stone pattern on the floor, the result of highly skilled craftsman. The walls and ceiling are filled with art. Great images.

I was in there when the were turning on the lights and I have to say it is really amazing to see it light up and start glowing with the golden hue. Spectacular.

I agree with you. I have a coffee table book devoted just to the floors of the Basilica San Marco.

Great shots, they give the right idea of the place, and it is obviously forbidden to take pictures inside! But this is Italy...

Like that floor too! Did you go to the Biennale at all?

I've never been to Venice (yet) but I was dazzled by the floor of duomos in Tuscany. I think that I took more photos of the marble floors than I did of the splendours above.

Ohhh, you went to Venice, my favourite city. There is so much to see - look up, look down, look all around.

Sometimes the most interesting sights are the reverse of what everyone's looking at. At least that's what I tell myself when I go off on a goofy tangent. (Though that's not how I'd describe your first shot. It's very nice.)

Another two brilliant photos.
I very like churches so it was a very good moment for me to see it today.
Thanks for sharing.
