West Farms

West Farms Mall is a large covered shopping mall at the intersection of Farmington, West Hartford and New Britain.

Alphabet Spire VI is a 28-foot high sculpture by William Crutchfield.  It has stood outside the J. C. Penney store since West Farms opened in 1974.

It has? I've honestly never noticed but in the past ten years I bet I can count the number of times I've been to the mall on one hand. No nurseries there.

I've shopped there many times, but never had my camera with me. Now I have another reason to shop there, besides going to the Apple Store. ;) Nice picture!

It's in great condition after nearly 49 years. It makes me wonder where Alphabet Spires I to V are located.

Whether by the artist or the mall wasn't clear, but if I recall correctly it's an homage to local resident Noah Webster and his Blue Back Speller.

It's looking good for its age! I love displays like this, really livens up an otherwise typical day at the mall.

Sort of a Tower of Babel. Will its meaning change when JC Penny goes under?
