Place Holder

The blizzard -- named Nemo -- has hit Hartford.  The Governor declared a state of emergency and prohibited all nonessential travel on the highways.  Through late Friday night, when this post was scheduled for posting today, some Connecticut towns were already reporting more than a foot of snow.   Cape Cod (to the east of us) had wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, and the Connecticut utilities were projecting that about one third of their customers would lose power.

I am hoping to get some storm photos from a guest photographer to share with you.  Until then, I will let the storm be represented by this photo of Elizabeth Park after an early season snowfall.  It looks a lot different from the same scene in November, shown below.  By the end of Saturday, only the tops of the fence posts will be visible.

I like that you show the two pics at different seasons! Both are beautiful!
I can't even imagine what such a storm can mean...

Yes, both are beautiful.

Good heavens that's a lot of snow expected, surely winter temperatures should be getting milder by now Jack? Both images of this same spot are postcard picture perfect.

Excellent photos of then and now. This winter weather is when the tough get going.

I'm still trying to dig a path to the garage so I can get at the snowblower. Twenty three inches on the patio. Drifts are preventing me from opening the front door. But I have power!

up here in vermont all is fluffy white, like a downy newborn day.

Amazing to think of that much snow covering such a pretty scene. I am thankful not to live where it snows so much. I like looking at your photos, though, and those of your guest photographers, too!

Very interesting this comparison, Jack! Beautiful photos, both.

It's quite a spot, and a good contrast, Jack.

I'm not sure how much we got out of the storm here, but the snow's at an end, and the powder feels right for some cross country skiing.

Love the contrast between the two shots and I can just imagine how the scene must look today.

Great contrast indeed, Jack! I'm sure you're glad to be in Florida!! From what I've seen on TV and read, it sounds like a monster storm! Take care!

I am at work and talking to a customer that has moved back here from west Hartford. Small world!

Thanks for sharing the seasonal contrasts visually with us Jack. I hope you're not affected with loss of power. Keep safe! (while you're toes are freezing, we are about to experience temperatures in the high 30's (C) again as Summer shouts its last few hurrahs!)

I'm sure you're very glad to be in Florida right now. The east coast of the US has had some terrible extreme weather lately. I can't imagine what that much snow would do. Here we can't even cope with 3 inches!

I am just watching the news....oh boy, I can't believe what I am seeing. Terrific photos here!

I really like both shots but the snowy one has that magical touch to it.

Well done, Jack. It's a beautiful place in any season. Well, maybe right now things might be a wee bit wintry!

Nice contrasts.

It's time to play in the snow.

I agree that both are beautiful but don't take a warm sunshine day away from me, please! :-)

Well done -- taking the pic in the same spot. Aren't you glad you're not enduring the blizzard of 2013?!
